WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-f, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc. for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and

WHEREAS, in 1982, the House of Prayer Episcopal Church in Newark, became concerned at the ever-increasing hordes of people wandering the streets in Newark and throughout Essex County, homeless, hungry and hopeless; and

WHEREAS, recognizing this human crisis, the House of Prayer Episcopal Church of Newark, in cooperation with four (4) other parishes in the Episcopal Diocese, Trinity and St. Phillips Cathedral, Newark, Christ Church, Short Hills, St. Lukes' Church, Montclair and St. George's, took on the mission to come together and establish the "Apostles' House", a family emergency shelter; and

WHEREAS, during their forty (40) years of unwavering dedication, service, and commitment to serving homeless woman and their children, The Apostles' House has evolved into a cornerstone and integral component of Newark's vital social services "safety net", providing a stable, safe, drug-free environment where parents and children receive comprehensive social services to improve their emotional, social, and financial quality of life; and
