WHEREAS, Carlos M. Gonzalez, is an Attorney and Certified Public Accountant (CPA) who represented many Newark clients concerning finance and real estate matters, in private practice, in the City of Newark; and
WHEREAS, Carlos M. Gonzalez has served the City of Newark as a Council Member-at-Large since July 1, 2006; and
WHEREAS, Carlos M. Gonzalez also served Newark constituents while employed by County of Essex, New Jersey (a government agency that serve the City of Newark and contiguous municipalities) for several years; and
WHEREAS, Carlos M. Gonzalez intends to retire effective June 30, 2026 with 20 years of service; and
WHEREAS, employees who serve the City of Newark for twenty-five (25) consecutive years are granted lifetime health benefits; and
WHEREAS, the City of Newark desires to implement a one-time rule relaxation for Carlos M. Gonzalez for his career of service to the citizens of Newark as an elected official.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Municipal Council, the City's Governing Body, hereby authorizes the extension of lifetime health benefits consistent with the fringe benefit entitlement for employees that retire with twenty-five (25) years of service to the City of Newark to Carlos M. Gonzalez.
2. The award of such an entitlement shall be by Resolution of the Municipal Council.
