WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-e, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc. for honorary and ceremonial purpose; and
WHEREAS, Antonio Serrano, a longtime Newark resident and community activist, was born in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico in 1939 and came to the United States in 1945 at the age of six (6); and
WHEREAS, after relocating to Newark in 1958, he became extremely active in the Hispanic community and was instrumental in the establishment of several community baseball leagues, in addition to, several Puerto Rican folkloric music groups and festivals, including the popular El Festival del Mapeye.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Municipal Council does hereby authorize the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of Broadway and Chester Avenue as Antonio Serrano Way.
2. The official names of the said streets shall remain Broadway and Chester Avenue in their entirety.

This resolution authorizes the naming of the intersection of Broadway and Chester Avenue as Antonio Serrano Way, for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
