WHEREAS, the Municipal Council is supportive of community events that provide an essential service to the residents of Newark while also bringing attention and awareness to an issue that effects all segments of the society; and
WHEREAS, the South Ward Community Walk will be celebrating the 2026 Group 1 NJ State Boys' basketball champions, the Malcolm X Shabazz Bulldogs. The marching along the streets of the south ward of Newark, ending the walk inside Shabazz Stadium/Parade; and
WHEREAS, the Municipal Council has indicated its support of the South Ward Community on a walk, to be held at the MXS Stadium, Thursday, April 2, 2026 from 1:30 P.M. until 2:00 A.M.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Municipal Council does hereby indicate its support of the South ward Community Walk, on Thursday, April 2, 2026, from 1:30 P.M. until 2:00 A.M.
2. The Municipal Council is co-sponsoring this special event and waives the City of Newark's Special Event Permit Application Fee ($125.00), however, it does not waive insurance coverage requirements due to be provided by event organizers or costs above service charges described in R.O. 5:10-1 et seq.
