AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 23:15-1, STOP INTERSECTIONS, OF TITLE 23, TRAFFIC AND PARKING, OF THE REVISED GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, 2000, AS AMENDED AND SUPPLEMENTED, BY DESIGNATING JOHNSON STREET AND HERMON STREET AS A STOP SIGN INTERSECTION. (EAST WARD)

WHEREAS, the Department of Engineering, Division of Traffic and Signals, completed a multi-way stop control warrant study on May 5, 2017 as per the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices(MUTCD) and the intersection of Johnson Street and Hermon Street, in the East Ward, met the conditions for a stop sign intersection; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Engineering, Division of Traffic and Signals, desires to improve safety at the intersection of Johnson Street and Hermon Street, in the East Ward, by requiring drivers to stop at Hermon Street approaches before entering the intersection.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
Section 1. That Section 23:15-1, Stop Intersections, of Title 23, Traffic and Parking, of the Revised General Ordinances of the City of Newark, New Jersey, 2000, as amended and supplemented, be amended by adding thereto the following:
Johnson Street and Hermon Street, with stop on Hermon Street
Section 2. Any ordinances or parts thereof inconsistent with this ordinance are hereby repealed.
Section 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon final passage and publication and in accordance with the laws of the State of New Jersey.
Section 4. This ordinance does not require approval by the Commissioner of Transportation.
STATEMENT
This ordinance amends Section 23:15-1, Stop Intersections, of Title 23, Traffic and Parking, of the Revised General Ordinances to authorize the placement of Stop signs on Hermon Street approaches at the Johnson Street and Hermon Street intersection. (East Ward).
