WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-e, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc. for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and
WHEREAS, Rev. Dr. Perry Simmons, the longtime pastor of Newark’s historic and iconic Abyssinian Baptist Church, has been one of the City of Newark’s most influential religious leaders for many years, in addition to serving and being appointed to various anti-crime and pro-business taskforces, community boards and national search committees for local and statewide positions; and
WHEREAS, Rev. Simmons is also well known throughout the State of New Jersey’s religious community for his dedicated service in bringing together all nationalities, races and religions, to work collectively in peace and unity.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Municipal Council does hereby authorize the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of West Kinney Street and Prince Street as Rev. Dr. Perry Simmons Place
2. The official names of the said streets shall remain the same in their entirety.

This resolution hereby authorizes the naming of the intersection of West Kinney Street and Prince Street as Rev. Dr. Perry Simmons Place, for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
