WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP), Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) grants funding to address firearm-related crime and forensics through the establishment of Crime Gun Intelligence Centers (CGICs). This initiative is a partnership with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to utilize intelligence, technology, and community engagement to swiftly identify crime guns and their sources, and effectively prosecute perpetrators.

WHEREAS, on behalf of the City of Newark (the "City"), the Director of the Department of Public Safety submitted an application to the United States Department of Justice - Bureau of Justice Assistance requesting funding in the amount of Seven Hundred Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($700,000.00) from the BJA FY 22 Local Law Enforcement Crime Gun Intelligence Center Integration Initiative, to fund police initiatives to address gun crimes with no City funds required; and
