WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-f, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc. for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and
WHEREAS, for many years the porch and backyard of Mrs. Hazel Mincy was where every child that lived in the community spent good times. Mrs. Mincy always provided a place for all to feel safe and protected; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Mincy treated every child like her own with her soft mannerism of kindness she made sure that no child went hungry, learned discipline and manners and allowed them to talk to her when they had a personal problem; and
WHEREAS, through Mrs. Mincy’s positive attitude and willingness to sacrifice her own peace of mind for the children and the community of Avon Avenue and South 15th Street, we will be forever grateful for her caring hand and comforting smile.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Municipal Council hereby authorizes the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of Avon Avenue and South 15th Street as “Hazel Mincy Way”.
2. The official name of the said streets shall remain Avon Avenue and South 15th Street in their entirety.

This resolution authorizes the renaming of the intersection of Avon Avenue and South 15th Street as “Hazel Mincy Way”, for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
