WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-f adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc. for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and

WHEREAS, Hector Gregorio Rios, also known as Isam Abdul Hakim, was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, on March 12, 1952, and emigrated to Newark, New Jersey at an early age; and

WHEREAS, Hector attended the Newark Public Schools system and was a proud graduate of Barringer High School, before joining the US Navy and receiving a honorable discharge after his tour of duty; and

WHEREAS, intellectually and spiritually curious, Hector became the first male in his family to attend college, obtaining a Bachelor Degree from Montclair State University, and a Master's Degree in Education from Jersey City State University, in addition to, traveling to Mecca in completion of his Hajj, the sacred pilgrimage to Mecca required by all Muslim once in their lifetime; and

WHEREAS, Hector G. Dios aka Isam Abdul Hakim, was a faithful and exemplary employee of the Newark School System for over twenty-four (24) years, unselfishly dedicated his service to mentoring Newark's At-Risk youths, gang-members and drug-users, working tirelessly to keep them off the streets and empowering them to fully appreciate own self-worth and developing their unrealized p...
