WHEREAS, on or about November 12, 2025, the Greater Newark Conservancy was notified by the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) that they were granted $500,000 to increase access to local produce by expanding production capacity at six urban farms, distributing harvests through markets, farm stands, and Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) boxes, and establishing a centralized site to aggregate produce and connect farms to shared infrastructure such as wash-and-pack facilities and cold storage); and

WHEREAS, the NJEDA created Food Equity and Economic Development in New Jersey (FEED NJ), a $30 million pilot program awarding grants between $50,000 and $500,000 for innovative projects that strengthen food access and food security in New Jersey's most acute Food Desert Communities (FDCs) and improve New Jersey residents' access to fresh, affordable, healthy food; and

WHEREAS, the Mayor of the City of Newark (the "City") and the Municipal Council are dedicated to improving Newark residents' access to food; and
