WHEREAS, on or about January 26, 2017, on behalf of the City of Newark, the Public Safety Director submitted an application to the United States Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance, requesting funding in the amount of $700,000.00 from the FY 2017 Smart Policing Initiative Grant, to fund the implementation of a Model Precinct Accountability and Cooperation Team ("M-Pact") program, which is an evidence-based policing strategy leveraging crime analysis and technology within the Newark Police Division; and
WHEREAS, as a result of the above-mentioned application, on or about September 29, 2017, the City of Newark received notification from the United States Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, of a grant award in the amount of $700,000.00 from FY 2017 Smart Policing Initiative Grant Funds, and the Public Safety Director desires to accept the grant award; and
