WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-f, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc., for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and
WHEREAS, the Mrs. Dorothy L. Harris also known as "Lady Dee" was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and longtime Newark resident who had the willingness to help anyone in need; and
WHEREAS, for approximately 15 years, Dorothy volunteered alongside former Central Ward Councilwoman LaMonica McIver, Troy Langley and Pastor Reddick and other community leaders. She assisted with food, clothing, furniture, coat, and holiday distributions for Newark families. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she helped distribute fresh produce, meats, pastries, and other necessities to residents several days each week; and
WHEREAS, Dorothy also worked at Newark polling locations for many years and remained actively involved in the other necessities. Her years of dedication were recognized by the City of Newark, including recognition for her community work during the 2020 pandemic. Dorothy's compassion, generosity, and commitment to Newark left a lasting impact on the many residents and families she served.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
