WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-f, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc., for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and

WHEREAS, Maria Jusino, who was born in Orocovis, Puerto Rico and migrated to the City of Newark, NJ, as a teenager, became one of the leading role models in the Hispanic community when she became the first Hispanic woman to purchase her own business in 1974, Marie's Unisex Beauty Salon; and

WHEREAS, Marie's Unisex Beauty Salon, located at 181 Bloomfield Avenue, became a beacon of hope and aspiration not only for Hispanic women trying to provide for their families, but a model of success for all aspiring entrepreneurs seeking the American Dream; and

WHEREAS, Marie Jusino's generosity and unwavering support for numerous organizations, such as the New Jersey Puerto Rican State Parade Association and St. Columba's Church, was well-known throughout her beloved North Ward community, and her many years of unyielding dedication and commitment towards the empowerment of the Puerto Rican community merits special consideration and public recognition for all Newark residents.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

1. The Municipal Council does hereby authorize the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of Clifton Avenue and Bloomfield Avenue, as "Maria Jusin...
