WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-f adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc. for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and

WHEREAS, the late Rev. Dr. Lloyd Preston Terrell, Sr., was born in Akron, Ohio, and after attending and graduating from public schools, he joined the U. S. Army and served honorably until his discharge. He continued his education at Paine College in Augusta, Georgia, before receiving his calling into the ministry; and

WHEREAS, heeding his calling, Rev. Dr. Terrell, Sr., attended Divinity School where he received his Masters and Doctorate degrees, before beginning his pastoral service in Georgia and Iowa. He arrived in Newark in 1984, and thus began a long, rewarding and influential ministry at Franklin-St. John's United Methodist Church and St. Matthews Church, until his retirement in 2022.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

1. The Municipal Council does hereby authorize the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of Maple Avenue and Keer Avenue as "Rev. Dr. Lloyd P. Terrell, Sr. Way".

2. The official name of the said streets shall remain Maple Avenue and Keer Avenue, in their entirety.
