WHEREAS, on September 11, 2018, the Municipal Council adopted Resolution 7R4-a(s/as) ratifying and authorizing the Mayor and/or his designee, the Director of the Department of Engineering, to apply for and accept grant funding from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Federal Aid Program, administered by the State of New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), for the 2018 Safe Routes to Schools Program to provide for improvements that enable and encourage walking and bicycling to school, with no City funds required; and

WHEREAS, in response to the City's application, on May 15, 2019 the New Jersey Department of Transportation announced the award of One Million Dollars and Zero Cents ($1,000,000.00) to the City of Newark for the 2018 Safe Routes to Schools Program; and

WHEREAS, on October 11, 2019 the New Jersey Department of Transportation announced the launch of a new Safe Routes to Schools Design Assistance Program, providing consultant engineering services to assist the City with development of plans, specifications and estimates (PS&E) for the 2018 Newark Saf...
