Whereas, the late Reverend Bynum Coolidge Burton was one of the many community activists in this great metropolis as Minister and Clergy at the Israel Memorial AME Church in Newark, New Jersey; and
Whereas, Newark residents were very fond of this consummate public servant for his many contributions to all people; and
Whereas, the late Reverend Bynum Coolidge Burton leaves behind a legend of community and personal achievements in both his public and private lifestyles; and
Whereas, the Governing Body is seeking to maintain his legacy amongst the residents of this City by designating signage within the City of Newark, honoring the many successful years of his unselfish contributions by dedicating Lincoln Street and Court Street as the Reverend Bynum Coolidge Burton, Plaza in his honor, for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Corner of Lincoln Street and Court Street is hereby designated as the late Reverend Bynum Coolidge Burton Plaza, for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
2. The official name of said streets shall remain as Lincoln Street
and Court Street in their entirety.
