WHEREAS, on November 11, 2007 Mr. Cordell R. Aarons, Jr. while walking home, aT Midnight, from his place of employment along New Jersey Route 70 in Toms River, New Jersey, was struck and killed by an automobile driven by Ms. Katherine Aponte; and
WHEREAS, the manner in which the investigation of the accident which killed Mr. Aarons has been described as questionable by experienced law enforcement personnel; and
WHEREAS, no formal action was taken against Ms. Aponte and no citations were issued to her; and
WHEREAS, the parents of Mr. Aarons have many concerns and unanswered questions including the delay in notifying them and there inability to obtain a copy of the police report; and
WHEREAS, the Municipal Council believes that an injustice has taken place in the case of Mr. Cordell R. Aarons, Jr
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
The Municipal Council calls upon and urges the New Jersey State Attorney General to re-open the case of the death of Mr. Cordell R. Aarons, Jr. on November 11, 2007.
