WHEREAS,  Mary Dell Sheard was a community activist and a leader amongst the residents of this great City; and
 
WHEREAS, Mary Dell Sheard dedicated her life to the Lord as well as to her community; and
 
WHEREAS, Mary Dell Sheard is being remembered by the residents of this great metropolis for her humanitarian efforts; and
 
WHEREAS, the Newark Municipal Council wants to commemorate her life by designating street signage in her honor for all residents to enjoy.
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT
 
1.      It does hereby authorize the naming of the corner of Avon Avenue and South 19th Street as the Mary Dell Sheard Plaza for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
 
2.      The official names of said streets shall remain Avon Avenue and South 19rh Street in their entirety.
