WHEREAS, on May 14, 2012, on behalf of the City of Newark, the Police Director submitted an application to the U.S. Department of Justice - Bureau of Justice Assistance, requesting funding in the amount of $485,804.00 from the FY2012 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Grant Local Program to fund police overtime initiatives to address violent crime with no City funds required; and

WHEREAS, pursuant to the terms of the grant application, a copy of which is attached hereto, the City of Newark is required to submit a resolution from the Newark Municipal Council authorizing submission of the grant application; and

WHEREAS, the City of Newark has received notification of receipt of the grant award in connection with this application, and the Police Director desires to accept the grant award and execute a grant agreement governing said award; and
