AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 23:3-2, LEFT TURNS, OF TITLE 23, TRAFFIC AND PARKING, OF THE REVISED GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, 2000, AS AMENDED AND SUPPLEMENTED, BY PROHIBITING LEFT TURNS NORTHBOUND AT THE INTERSECTION OF MT. PROSPECT PLACE AND MT. PROSPECT AVENUE.

WHEREAS, the Department of Engineering desires to improve safety at the intersection of Mt. Prospect Place and Mt. Prospect Avenue, in the North Ward, by prohibiting left turns while traveling north on Mt. Prospect Place to south on Mt. Prospect Avenue; and
WHEREAS, due to the geometry of the intersection, the sight distance for left turns is obstructed and requires the prohibition of all left turning movements from north on Mt. Prospect Place to south on Mt. Prospect Avenue.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
Section 1. That Section 23:3-2, Left Turns, of Title 23, Traffic and Parking, of the Revised General Ordinances of the City of Newark, New Jersey, 2000, as amended and supplemented, be amended by adding thereto the following:
North on Mt. Prospect Place to south on Mt. Prospect Avenue
Section 2. Any existing ordinances or parts thereof inconsistent with this ordinance are hereby repealed.
Section 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon final passage and publication and in accordance with the laws of the State of New Jersey.
Section 4. This ordinance does not require approval by the Commissioner of Transportation.
Statement
This ordinance prohibits vehicles from making a left turn north on Mt. Prospect Place to south on Mt. Prospect Avenue, in the North Ward.
