Whereas, the Fairmount Neighborhood coalition has completed a comprehensive plan for the development of their neighborhood;
Whereas, the Public Service Electric and Gas Corporation (PSE & G) has proposed to build a permanent electric switching station in the heart of residential Fairmount Neighborhood;
Whereas, PSE & G has consistently refused to address the communities' legitimate environmental and health concerns related to the McCarter Switching Station Project;
Whereas, PSE & G has not been transparent with respect to its site selection criteria and process for the McCarter Switching Station Project;
Whereas, The McCarter Switching Station Project is not consistent with the Fairmount Neighborhood Strategic Plan nor the City of Newark's Master Plan;
Whereas, The McCarter Switching Project, as proposed, would have an immediate major negative impact on the property values of surrounding residences and businesses property and stall ongoing redevelopment efforts in the area;
Whereas, The McCarter Switching Station Project would cost the Fairmount Neighborhood and the City of Newark tens of millions of dollars in property values, potential property and payroll taxes, and the opportunity for permanent jobs and quality housing;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK NEW JERSEY, THAT:
