Whereas, the Department of Fire in its continuous efforts to maintain and increase the number of trained, front-line Firefighters in the City of Newark; and

Whereas, The United States Department of Homeland Security through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has implemented the FY 2012 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant Program to eligible municipalities and fire districts; and

Whereas, On August 10, 2012, on behalf of the City of Newark, the Director of the Department of Fire submitted an application to the United States Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency, 500 C Street, S.W., Washington, DC 20472, requesting grant funding in the amount of $3,171,693.00 to aid in our continuous efforts of protecting the health and safety of the public and firefighting personnel against fire and fire-related hazards; and
