AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 23:12-1, CROSSWALKS DESIGNATED, OF TITLE 23, TRAFFIC AND PARKING, OF THE REVISED GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, 2000, AS AMENDED AND SUPPLEMENTED, BY DESIGNATING A MID-BLOCK CROSSWALK ON RAYMOND BOULEVARD, 500 FEET WEST OF THE  WESTERLY CURB LINE OF SOMME STREET.

WHEREAS, the Division of Traffic and Signals desires to improve safety on Raymond Boulevard between Somme Street and Van Buren Street, by creating a mid-block crosswalk to accommodate the high volume of pedestrians accessing the City's new Riverfront Park in the East Ward.
 
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
      
      Section 1.  That Section 23:12-1, Crosswalks Designated, of Title 23, Traffic and Parking, of the Revised General Ordinances of the City of Newark, New Jersey, 2000, as amended and supplemented, be amended by adding thereto the following:
 
   Raymond Boulevard, 500ft. west of the westerly curb line of Somme Street.
 
      Section 2.  Any ordinances or parts thereof inconsistent with this ordinance are hereby repealed.
 
Section 3.  This ordinance shall take effect upon final passage and publication, and in accordance with the laws of the State of New Jersey.
 
Section 4.  This ordinance does not require approval by the Commissioner of Transportation.
 
            
STATEMENT
 
This ordinance designates a mid-block crosswalk on Raymond Boulevard, 500 feet west of the westerly curb line of Somme Street.
