WHEREAS, The City of Newark Police Department participated in a Gun Amnesty and Buy Back Program on Saturday and Sunday, April 27 and 28, 2013 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Newark Police Property Room, 104 Arlington Street, Newark; and

WHEREAS, this program would allow the citizens of Newark the opportunity to surrender their firearms anonymously; and

WHEREAS, the Newark Police Foundation of New Jersey agrees to donate a total amount of $60,000.00 in the form of cash cards to compensate participants who surrendered firearms; and

WHEREAS, the Newark Police Department wishes to accept the gift from the Newark Police Foundation of New Jersey pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:5-29; and

WHEREAS, Newark Police Foundation of New Jersey fully understands and agrees that it is not entitled to receive any direct benefit from the City of Newark in exchange for its gift and shall receive only the indirect benefit of furthering its mission of making the City safer through its gift.


NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
