AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 23:15-1, STOP INTERSECTIONS, OF TITLE 23, TRAFFIC AND PARKING, OF THE REVISED GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, 2000, AS AMENDED AND SUPPLEMENTED, BY DESIGNATING 17^th AVENUE AND SOUTH 17^th STREET A STOP SIGN INTERSECTION. (Central Ward)

WHEREAS, the Division of Traffic and Signals desires to improve safety at the intersection of 17^th Avenue and South 17^th Street by requiring drivers to stop on 17^th Avenue before entering the path of vehicles traveling on South 17^th Street, in the Central Ward.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

      Section 1.  That Section 23:15-1, Stop Intersections, of Title 23, Traffic and Parking, of the Revised General Ordinances of the City of Newark, New Jersey, 2000, as amended and supplemented, be amended by adding thereto the following:

17^th Avenue and South 17^th Street with stop on 17^th Avenue

      Section 2.      Any ordinances or parts thereof inconsistent with this ordinance are hereby repealed.

      Section 3.      This ordinance shall take effect upon final passage and publication and in accordance with the laws of the State of New Jersey.

Section 4.      This ordinance does not require approval by the Commissioner of Transportation.

STATEMENT:

      This ordinance establishes the intersection of 17^th Avenue and South 17^th Street as a stop intersection with vehicles stopping on 17^th Avenue, in the Central Ward.
