WHEREAS, the Central Avenue Bridge over the Newark City Subway is 106 years old; and

WHEREAS, TranSystem Corporation conducted a biannual Re-Evaluation Bridge Survey Report, Cycle Number 9, dated November 29, 2012; and

WHEREAS, the Re-Evaluation Bridge Survey Report concluded that the bridge is in overall serious condition due to the inventory ratings; the overall physical condition of the bridge is poor due to the superstructure; the structure is functionally obsolete due to inadequate under clearances; the structure is classified as structurally deficient due to the condition of the bridge and low sufficiency ratings; and

WHEREAS, the City of Newark is eligible to apply for to the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA) Local Capital Project Delivery Program, Concept Development Phase Study, to undertake a comprehensive evaluation of the structure complete with viable options for repairing or rebuilding of the structure; and

WHEREAS, the Department of Engineering is seeking a Resolution of Support authorizing the Mayor and the Acting Director of Engineering to apply to the North Jersey ...
