Whereas, the residents of the City of Newark, New Jersey have played a major role in the productivity of this community; and
Whereas, the residents of the City of Newark are very fond of the accomplishments of this consummate public servant; and
Whereas, Mary Palmer Smith devoted her time and effort and self-sacrifice to help build on the social, health and welfare and political progress of this community
Whereas, the Newark Municipal Council wants to commemorate the progress made by Mary Palmer Smith by designating street signage in her honor for all residents to enjoy.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT it does hereby authorize the naming of Chelsea Avenue and South Orange Avenue as Mary Palmer Smith Way for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
1. Naming of Chelsea Avenue and South Orange Avenue as Mary Palmer Smith Way for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
2. The names of the said streets shall remain Chelsea Avenue and South Orange Avenue in their entirety.
