ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE 6-S & F-c, MARCH 4, 1992, TITLE 2, ADMINISTRATION, CHAPTER 2, OFFICE OF THE MAYOR AND AGENCIES SECTION ENTITLED, COMMISSION ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN, OF THE REVISED GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, 2000, AS AMENDED AND SUPPLEMENTED, BY CHANGING MEMBERSHIP OF THE COMMISSION FROM TWENTY-ONE (21) TO THIRTY-THREE (33) MEMBERS AND CHANGING TERMS OF APPOINTMENTS. SEVEN (7) APPOINTMENTS SHALL BE FOR A TERM OF FOUR (4) YEARS, EIGHT (8) APPOINTMENTS SHALL BE FOR A TERM OF THREE (3) YEARS AND EIGHTEEN (18) APPOINTMENTS FOR A TERM OF TWO (2) YEARS AND CHANGING THE COMMISION MEETINGS FROM FOUR (4) TO SIX (6) TIMES PER YEAR.

BODY
WHEREAS, the Municipal Council of the City of Newark previously passed City Ordinance 2:2-39 et seq., entitled "COMMISSION ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN"; and
WHEREAS, the Office of the Mayor wishes to amend certain provisions of City Ordinance 2:2-39 et seq., as amended and supplemented.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
Section 1. Section 2:2-39.3 of the Newark Municipal Code is hereby amended and restated to read as follows (deleted language is shown with a strike through it and new language is shown as underlined and bold):
2:2-39.3. Membership of Commission; Appointment; Terms.
a. The Commission shall consist of twenty-one (21) Thirty-three (33) members to be appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the Municipal Council. The majority of the Commission shall be women. The Mayor and Council President shall serve as ex officio members.
b. The initial appointments shall be as follows: seven (7) appointments shall be for a term of three (3) Four (4) years, seven (7) Eight (8) appointments shall be for a term of two (2) Three (3) years, and seven (7) Eighteen (18) appointments for a term of one (1) Two (2) years. All appointees by the Mayor to fill vacancies shall serve for the unexpired term.
c. All subsequent appointments shall be for a term of three (3) years two (2) years. Ordinances 6-S&F-c, April 20, 1988; 6-S&F-n, April 18, 1990; 6-S&F-c, March 4, 1992.
2:2-39.5 Commission Meetings.
The Commission shall meet at least four (4) six (6) times per year. (Ordinances 6-S&F-c, April 20, 1988; 6-S&F-c, March 4, 1992).
Section 2. All other provisions of City Ordinance 2:2-39 et seq., shall remain in effect unless amended herein.
Section 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon final passage and publication in accordance with the laws of the State of New Jersey.
