WHEREAS, the State of New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) has designated certain roadways in New Jersey as Safe Corridors based upon accident rates, fatalities, traffic volume and other criteria; and
 
WHEREAS, a portion of Route 22 in the City of Newark has been designated as a safe corridor by the State Department of Transportation; and
 
WHEREAS, the NJDOT has appropriated funds under the FY 2014 Highway Safety Fund Program to local enforcement efforts by municipalities responsible for these Safe Corridors; and   
 
WHEREAS, the NJDOT has identified the City of Newark, New Jersey's Police Department to be an eligible recipient of up to $6,558.68 in FY 2014 Highway Safety Fund Grant Program; and
 
WHEREAS, on December 9, 2014, on behalf of the City of Newark, the Police Director submitted an electronic application to the State of New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) requesting grant funding in the amount of $6,558.68 from the FY 2014 Highway Safety Grant Fund Program for reimbursement funding for previously performed overtime operations conducted to address traffic enforcement in the City's Safe Corridor Zone, identified as application HSF-2014-Newark City-00026, with no municipal funds required; and      
 
WHEREAS, as a result of this application, the City of Newark has been awarded a grant award in the amount of $6,558.68 from the State of New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) for reimbursement funding for previously performed overtime operations conducted to address traffic enforcement in the City's Safe Corridor Zone with no municipal funds required.       
 
 
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
 
1.      The Mayor and/or his designee, the Police Director, are hereby authorized to submit an electronic grant application to the State of New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) requesting grant funding in the amount of $6,558.68 from the FY 2014 Highway Safety Fund Grant Program for reimbursement funding of previously performed overtime operations conducted to address traffic enforcement in the City's Safe Corridor Zone with no municipal funds required (a copy of the application, identified as HSF-2014-Newark City-00026, is attached hereto and made a part hereof).      
 
2.      The Municipal Council hereby ratifies its authorization of this application from the date of the application submission to the date of adoption of this authorizing resolution.
 
3.      The grant award in the amount of $6,558.68 from the State of New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) is hereby accepted (a copy of the award letter is attached hereto and made a part hereof).   
 
4.      The Mayor and/or his designee, the Police Director, are hereby authorized to enter into and execute the grant documents with the State of New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) to receive and expend the grant award of $6,558.68 for reimbursement funding of previously performed overtime operations conducted to address traffic enforcement in the City's Safe Corridor Zone.      
 
5.      No municipal funds are required for receipt or acceptance of this grant award.
 
6.      The Police Director shall file a fully-executed copy of the grant application, grant award letter, and the grant agreement in the Office of the City Clerk.
 
 
 
STATEMENT
 
This resolution ratifies and authorizes the Mayor and/or his designee, the Police Director, and the actions taken to submit an electronic application, identified as HSF-2014-Newark City-00026, for grant funding from the New Jersey Department of Transportation under the FY 2014 Highway Safety Fund Grant Program and to enter into and execute an agreement with and accept funds in the amount of $6,558.68 from the New Jersey Department of Transportation for reimbursement funding for previously performed overtime operations conducted to address traffic enforcement in the City's Safe Corridor Zone with no municipal funds required.
