WHEREAS, the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) has completed an investigation of the existing centerline markings along Frelinghuysen Avenue (Route 27) in the City of Newark and based on the investigation, the existing centerline markings are in compliance with current design standards; and,
WHEREAS, although the certerline markings are in compliance and will not change, the NJDOT needs to update its records; and,
WHEREAS, in order for NJDOT to begin this process, these updates must be legally established as "No Passing Zones" through a Traffic Regulation Order; and,
WHEREAS, an initial step in obtaining the TRO is for the City to provide to NJDOT a Resolution supporting the action; and,
WHEREAS, the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) has requested (a copy of the letter is attached hereto and made a part hereof) that the City of Newark provide a Resolution of Support of the centerline markings on Frelinghuysen Avenue (Route 27) in the City of Newark; and
WHEREAS, the City of Newark supports the establishment of the existing centerline markings along Frelinghuysen Avenue (Route 27) in the City of Newark as "No Passing Zones".
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Mayor and Municipal Council of the City of Newark, New Jersey, affirm its support for the existing centerline markings along Frelinghuysen Avenue (Route 27) in the City of Newark as "No Passing Zones".
2. No municipal funds are required for this project.
