WHEREAS, the 2015 Newark Municipal Budget approved by the State of New Jersey through the Division of Local Government Services within the Department of Community Affairs established a 9.1% property tax increase on the taxpayers of the City of Newark; and

 

WHEREAS, the when residents and property owners are struggling to recover from the adverse economic conditions created by the last recession; and

 

WHEREAS, the State of New Jersey approved the 2015 Newark Municipal budget under its mandate of financial oversite; and

 

WHEREAS, the 2015 Newark Municipal budget was approved by the State of New Jersey without the benefit of input from the Newark Municipal Council; and

 

WHEREAS, the Municipal Council of the City of Newark believes that the State of New Jersey should not balance the budget on the backs of taxpayers who are going through a very difficult financial time.

 

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT: 

 

The Members of the Newark Municipal Council wish to express their disagreement with the final budget total amount for the State-approved 2015 Municipal Budget for the City of Newark.

 

STATEMENT

 

This resolution expresses the Newark Municipal Council’s disagreement with the final total amount of the State approved 2015 Newark Municipal Budget and the property tax burden place on Newark residents and property owners.
