WHEREAS, the Newark Municipal Council has a deep commitment to continue development of our City; and
WHEREAS, the Newark Municipal Council believes that investment by the Port Authority of NY/NJ in the expansion of a new PATH station in the vicinity of Frelinghuysen and Haynes Avenues will enhance the mass transit link between the airport and the heart of our metropolitan area; and
WHEREAS, the Newark Municipal Council understands that this project has been envisioned since the 1970s with over a ten (10) year collaboration between the New Jersey Regional Planning Association, Port Authority of NY/NJ and Newark Housing Authority; and
WHEREAS, a Port Authority of NY/NJ study recommended the project in 2012 and since then Port Authority of NY/NJ representatives have visited with city officials and housing authority representatives and public presentations by Port Authority of NY/NJ representatives are planned for November 2015; and
WHEREAS, this $2 billion dollar project is due to break ground in 2018, connecting the growing Newark Liberty International Airport directly to Manhattan while simultaneously creating a transit and airport village transforming Dayton Street and the Seth Boyden corridor for city residents; and
WHEREAS, the Newark Municipal Council enthusiastically urges continued support of the $2 billion dollar Port Authority of NY/NJ PATH project expansion in Newark, New Jersey.
THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
