AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND SUPPLEMENTING TITLE II, ADMINISTRATION, CHAPTER TWO, OFFICE OF THE MAYOR, PART TWO BOARDS, AGENCIES, COMMISSIONS, SECTION 2:2-64 MUNICIPAL COURT OF THE REVISED GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY 2000.

Body

WHEREAS, the Chief Judge of the Municipal Court desires to amend Ordinance 2:2-64 and 2:2-64.5, to accurately reflect the current composition of the Municipal Courts of the City of Newark; and

WHEREAS, the Municipal Court is staffed with twelve (12) Judges as consented to by the Assignment Judge Patricia K. Costello of Vicinage V, by Order entered on November 28, 2005.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

Section 1. The Revised General Ordinances of the City of Newark, New Jersey, 2000, shall be amended and supplemented, as follows:

2:2-64. MUNICIPAL COURT.

2:2-64.4. Parts of Court.
The Municipal Court shall sit in six (6) seven (7) parts, to be known and designated as Parts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, 7 and 20. Part 5 is designated as "Family Part" and Part 6 is designated as "Traffic Part" and matters related thereto shall be made returnable to such Parts.

2:2-64.5. Judges; Number; Appointment; Term; Full Time.
a. The Municipal Court shall have six (6) twelve (12) Judges who shall be appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the Council for the term provided in N.J.S. 2A:8-5, of which eleven (11) shall be full-time and one (1) part-time.
b. With the exception of the part-time Judge, all All Judges shall, subject to the rules of the New Jersey Supreme Court, devote their full time to the discharge of their respective offices and shall be prohibited from engaging in the practice of law other than in the discharge of their duties as a Judge., with the exception of the part-time judge who, shall be per...
