AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 23:15-2, MULTIWAY STOP INTERSECTIONS, OF TITLE 23, TRAFFIC AND PARKING, OF THE REVISED GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, 2000, AS AMENDED AND SUPPLEMENTED, BY DESIGNATING 14TH AVENUE AND SOUTH 19TH STREET AS A MULTIWAY STOP SIGN INTERSECTION.

Body

WHEREAS, as part of the Mayor's Model Neighborhood Initiative, the Department of Engineering, Division of Traffic and Signals, has undertaken a traffic safety analysis of all intersections in the West Ward Model Neighborhood; and

WHEREAS, the Department of Engineering, Division of Traffic and Signals, completed a multi-way stop control warrant study on October 14, 2015 as per the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices(MUTCD) and the intersection of 14th Avenue and South 19th Street met the conditions for a multi-way stop sign intersection; and

WHEREAS, the Department of Engineering, Division of Traffic and Signals, desires to improve safety at the intersection of 14th Avenue and South 19th Street, in the West Ward, by requiring drivers to stop at all approaches before entering the intersection.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

Section 1. That Section 23:15-2, Multiway Stop Intersections, of Title 23, Traffic and Parking, of the Revised General Ordinances of the City of Newark, New Jersey, 2000, as amended and supplemented, be amended by adding thereto the following:

14th Avenue and South 19th Street

Section 2. Any ordinances or parts thereof inconsistent with this ordinance are hereby repealed.

Section 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon final passage and publication and in accordance with the laws of the State of New Jersey.

Section 4. This ordinance does not require approval by the Commissioner of Transportation.
