Whereas, Ordinance 6PSF-E, May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc. for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and

Whereas, Reverend Hannibal Goodwin, an Episcopal rector living in what is now called the Plume House, filed a patent application in 1887 for camera film on celluloid rolls, two years before George Eastman, founder of the internationally recognized film company Eastman Kodak; and

Whereas, George Eastman using the formula developed by Reverend Goodwin with minor adjustments, put the product on the market and became an immediate success, and was subsequently sued by Reverend Goodwin, who passed away in 1900, and later his estate for patent infringement; and

Whereas, after a long 27-year protracted legal battle, Reverend Goodwin’s heirs prevailed and received a multi-million dollar settlement, not only from Eastman, but also from other companies using his technology, which dominated photography until the recent invention of digital cameras.
