AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND SUPPLEMENTING TITLE VI, ANIMALS AND FOWLS, CHAPTER 1, DOMESTIC ANIMALS OF THE REVISED GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, 2000, AS AMENDED AND SUPPLEMENTED BY INCREASING CERTAIN FEES.

WHEREAS, the City of Newark issues numerous licensees for animals and fowls and domestic animals; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Newark has determined that it is necessary to adjust fees for the aforementioned licensees; and

 

WHEREAS, the Municipal Council finds and declares the following amendments to the Revised Ordinances of the City of Newark are deemed necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health, and or safety within the City of Newark. 

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

SECTION 1. Title VI, Animals and Fowls, Chapter 1, Domestic Animals of the Revised General Ordinances of the City of Newark, New Jersey, 2000, as amended and supplemented, to read as follows:

 

CHAPTER 1, DOMESTIC ANIMALS.

 

 

ARTICLE 2, DOG LICENSES AND REGISTRATION TAGS.

 

6:1-32.       DURATION OF LICENSE AND REGISTRATION.

    All licenses issued, and renewals thereof, under this Chapter shall expire on December 30th after its date of issuance. be for a period of one (1) year from the date of issuance. The Division of Tax Abatements/Special Taxes shall establish administrative rules and/or regulations pertaining to scheduling for the issuance of a dog license and registration tags. (1966 Code §6:1-26; 1966Code C.S. §6:1-26)

 

6:1-33.       LICENSE AND REGISTRATION FEES; EXEMPTION FOR "SEEING EYE" DOGS.

    a.   The person applying for the license and registration tag shall pay a fee of six dollars and fifty ($6.50) cents seven dollars and fifty cents ($7.50) for each dog, male or female, and also the sum of fifty ($.50) cents additional for the registration tag for each dog.

    b. For each annual renewal the fee for the license and for the registration tag shall be the same as for the original license tag.

    c.   There shall be a fee of nineteen ($19.00) dollars for the license and registration tag for a three (3) year period.

    d. Dogs used as guides for blind persons and commonly known as "seeing eye" dogs, shall be licensed and registered as other dogs hereinbefore provided for, except that the owner or keeper of such dog shall not be required to pay any fee therefor.

 

 

 

ARTICLE 3, ESTABLISHMENTS FOR DOGS.

 

6:1-44.       DURATION OF LICENSE.

    All licenses issued, and renewals thereof, under this chapter shall expire on December 30th after date of issuance. be for a period of one (1) year from the date of issuance. ARTICLE 5, VICIOUS AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS DOGS.

 

6:1-72.       LICENSING; FEE.

    a.   Any person owning or maintaining a dog adjudicated to be potentially dangerous by a Municipal Court shall obtain a potentially dangerous dog registration number, red identification tag and license in accordance with Section 6:1-66 above.

    b. The fee for a potentially dangerous dog registration number, red identification tag and license shall be seven hundred ($700.00) seven hundred fifty ($750.00) dollars annually, per dog.

 

Section 2. All prior ordinances or part thereof inconsistent herewith shall be amended and supplemented to conform to the provisions contained herein.

 

Section 3. If any part of this ordinance is declared unconstitutional or illegal, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.

 

Section 4. This ordinance shall take effect upon final passage and publication in accordance with the laws of the State of New Jersey.

Ordinance amending Title VI, Animals and Fowls, Chapter 1, Domestic Animals of the Revised General Ordinances of the City of Newark, to increase the fees for dog licenses and registration tags and sets the time frame for the expiration of same.
