WHEREAS, the late Shani Baraka, was one of the many community activist and educational icons in this great metropolis; and
WHEREAS, Newark residents were very fond of this consummate public servant; and
WHEREAS, the late Shani Baraka leaves behind a legend of historical achievements in both her public and private lifestyles; and
WHEREAS, the Governing Body is seeking to maintain this legacy amongst the residents of the City of Newark, by honoring the many successful years of her unselfish contributions by dedicating this Plaza in her honor for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. Resolution 7Rbw (AS) adopted November 3, 2004, designating the North West corner of Johnson and West Bigelow Street as "Shani Baraka Plaza" for honorary and ceremonial purposes is hereby amended by changing the location to Johnson Avenue at Clinton Avenue.
2. The official name of said streets shall remain as Johnson Avenue and Clinton Avenue in its entirety.
