WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-e, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc. for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and

 

                     WHEREAS, Mr. Jose L. Linares, patriarch to one Newark’s most distinguished Hispanic families, was born in Cuba before relocating to the United States in 1966 with his wife and five (5) sons; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Linares purchased a home on Woodside Avenue in 1973 and began working as a dedicated and committed teacher and guidance counselor for the Newark School System until his retirement in 1998; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Linares, the father of Federal Court Judge, Jose Luis Linares, was well respected throughout the City of Newark and especially in its Hispanic community for his commitment and dedication to the educational advancement of Newark’s young people.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

                     

1.                     The Municipal Council does hereby authorize the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of Montclair Avenue and Woodside Avenue as “Jose L. Linares Way”.

 

2.                     The official name of the said streets shall remain Montclair Avenue and Woodside Avenue in its entirety.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

This resolution hereby authorizes the naming of the intersection of Montclair Avenue and Woodside Avenue as “Jose L. Linares Way”, for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
