WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-e, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc. for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Annie King, a retired Newark public schools teacher, dedicated community leader, and public servant was revered throughout the South Ward Weequahic community as a person of action, who would walk the streets of the community offering assistance to those in need; and
WHEREAS, Ms. King’s inspirational life story included the purchase of the home she once cleaned as a housemaid, her dedication to servicing the community and endearingly being called the “Hat Lady,” in reference to the ever present hats she wore whenever in the public’s eye.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Municipal Council does hereby authorize the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of Keer Avenue and Crescent Avenue as “Ms. Annie King Way”.
2. The official name of the said streets shall remain Keer Avenue and Crescent Avenue in its entirety.

This resolution hereby authorizes the naming of the intersection of Keer Avenue and Crescent Avenue as “Ms. Annie King Way”, for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
