WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-e, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc. for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and
WHEREAS, the late Reverend J.C. Brown, founder and longtime Pastor of Newark’s New Light Missionary Baptist Church, was a dedicated and highly influential religious leader in the City of Newark; and
WHEREAS, Reverend J. C. Brown, who founded the church in 1958 and served faithfully as the pastor for thirty-one (31) years before his passing in 1989, was also well known and highly respected throughout New Jersey’s religious community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Municipal Council does hereby authorize the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of 14th Street and 12th Avenue as Reverend J.C. Brown Plaza.
2. The official names of the said streets shall remain 14th Street and 12th Avenue in their entirety.
STATEMENT
This resolution hereby authorizes the naming of the intersection of 14th Street and 12th Avenue as “Reverend J.C. Brown Plaza”, for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
