WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-e, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc. for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and
WHEREAS, long-time Newark resident, Daryl Deshawn Bethea, Sr. was employed by Perry’s Funeral Home for over thirty (30) years as one of its most faithful employees. The compassion, empathy, and special care he extended to thousands of families during their most difficult periods of bereavement helped immeasurably to reduce the grief and pain of losing a beloved family member; and
WHEREAS, during his career with one of Newark’s largest funeral services company, he unselfishly provided burial services for many families unable to afford the dignity of a proper memorial service; and
WHEREAS, his commitment to the community extended not only to mentoring young people and coaching little league baseball, but also to the business community where he encouraged the development and success of local businesses through extensive patronage.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Municipal Council does hereby authorize the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of Lincoln Street and Court Street as Daryl Deshawn Bethea, Sr. Way.
2. The official name of the said streets shall remain Lincoln Street and Court Street in its entirety.

This resolution hereby authorizes the naming of the intersection of Lincoln Street and Court Street as Daryl Deshawn Bethea, Sr. Way, for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
