WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-e, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc. for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and
WHEREAS, the late Reverend Dr. Jonah Nixon was very active in the civil and religious communities throughout the City of Newark as well as the State of New Jersey for many years; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Dr. Jonah Nixon was revered throughout the Tri-State religious community and served as the Moderator of the New Hope Missionary Baptist Association, Inc. and Vice-President of the Northern New Jersey Committee of Black Churchmen. As the longtime pastor of Trinity Baptist Church since 1968, he was considered one of the longest serving pastor of one congregation throughout the State of New Jersey.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Municipal Council does hereby authorize the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of South Orange Avenue and 12th Street as Reverend Dr. Jonah Nixon Place.
2. The official name of the said streets shall remain South Orange Avenue and 12th Street in its entirety.

This resolution hereby authorizes the naming of the intersection of South Orange Avenue and 12th Street as Reverend Dr. Jonah Nixon Place, for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
