WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-e, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc. for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and
WHEREAS, Dr. E. Alma Flagg was a pillar in the Newark educational community and her unwavering commitment and dedication to education was unquestioned and evident throughout her career; and
WHEREAS, Dr. E. Alma Flagg who served as president of the first chartered chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, in the State of New Jersey, Beta Alpha Omega, became the first African American female to serve as a Principal in an integrated public school in the City of Newark, Hawkins Street School; and
WHEREAS, in 1985 a new elementary school was dedicated and named in her honor, Dr. E. Alma Flagg School located at 150 3rd Street.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Municipal Council does hereby authorize the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of 3rd Street and 7th Avenue as Dr. E. Alma Flagg Place.
2. The official name of the said streets shall remain 3rd Street and 7th Avenue in its entirety.

This resolution hereby authorizes the naming of the intersection of 3rd Street and 7th Avenue as Dr. E. Alma Flagg Place, for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
