WHEREAS, Violent Crime and other criminal activity has plagued American cities for years and driving law abiding residents indoors during the evening hours out of fear for their safety and well-being; and
WHEREAS, the “National Night Out” Program instituted by police departments throughout the country, has encouraged residents to come out during the evening hours to reclaim their streets from the criminal element; and
WHEREAS, the City of Newark is desirous of joining in these efforts by providing anti-crime festivities in conjunction with the United Parks As One organization, at Mildred Helms Park, Jessie Allen Park and Nat Turner Park to be held Tuesday, August 7, 2018 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Municipal Council hereby supports and co-sponsors the “National Night Out” Festivities hosted by the United Parks as One organization, at Mildred Helms Park, Jessie Allen Park and Nat Turner Park, on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
2. The Municipal Council in co-sponsoring this special event waives the City of Newark’s event fees and costs, however does not waive the insurance coverage requirements due to be provided by the event organizers.
STATEMENT
This resolution hereby supports and declares co-sponsorship of the “National Night Out” Festivities hosted by the United Parks As One organization, to be held at Mildred Helms Park, Jessie Allen Park and Nat Turner Park, on Tuesday, August 7, 2018, from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., sponsored by Council Member, Carlos M. Gonzalez.
