WHEREAS, the Department of Health and Community Wellness provides nutritional services, nutritional education, immunization screening and education, voter registration, and family care enrollment through the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program; and

 

WHEREAS, the State of New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH), Division of Family Health Services, has made grant funds available for infrastructure projects to renovate the Newark WIC site at 110 William Street, Newark, New Jersey 07102; and

 

WHEREAS, on June 20, 2017, on behalf of the City of Newark, the Director of the Department of Health and Community Wellness submitted an application to the State of New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services, requesting grant funding in the amount of Two Hundred Fifty-Eight Thousand, Nine Hundred Seventy-Seven Dollars and Zero Cents ($258,977.00), for renovation of the WIC site at 110 William Street, Newark, New Jersey 07102 (a copy of said application is attached hereto and made a part hereof); and

 

WHEREAS, as a result of the application, the City of Newark has been awarded a grant in the amount of Two Hundred Fifty-Eight Thousand, Nine Hundred Seventy-Seven Dollars and Zero Cents ($258,977.00), from the NJDOH, Division of Family Health Services, for an infrastructure project to renovate the WIC site at 110 William Street, Newark, New Jersey 07102; the period for this funding is October 1, 2017 through September 30, 2019 (a copy of the NJDOH Notice of Grant Award is attached hereto and made a part hereof); and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Newark, Department of Health and Community Wellness desires to accept said grant award; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Newark, recognizes that the NJDOH may extend the time of the Grant Award and/or provide additional funds, if made available; and

 

WHEREAS, the NJDOH will amend the grant to reflect the extension of the grant period and/or increase or decrease of any additional funds, if made available.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

 

1.                     The Mayor and/or his designee, the Director of the Department of Health and Community Wellness, are hereby authorized to submit an application to the NJDOH, requesting grant funding in the amount of Two Hundred Fifty-Eight Thousand, Nine Hundred Seventy-Seven Dollars and Zero Cents ($258,977.00), for the purpose of renovating the WIC site at 110 William Street, Newark, New Jersey 07102, with no City funds required (a copy of the application is attached hereto and made a part thereof).

 

2.                     The Municipal Council hereby ratifies its authorization of this application from the date of application submission to the date of adoption of this resolution.

 

3.                     The grant award in the amount of Two Hundred Fifty-Eight Thousand, Nine Hundred Seventy-Seven Dollars and Zero Cents ($258,977.00), is hereby accepted (a copy of the award is attached hereto and made a part hereof).

 

4.                     The Mayor and/or his designee, the Director of the Department of Health and Community Wellness, are hereby authorized to enter into and execute any and all grant documents with the NJDOH to receive and expend the grant award in the amount of Two Hundred Fifty-Eight Thousand, Nine Hundred Seventy-Seven Dollars and Zero Cents ($258,977.00), for the purpose of  renovating the WIC site at 110 William Street, Newark, New Jersey 07102,  for the period commencing October 1, 2017and terminating on September 30, 2019.

 

5.                     The Agreement between the City of Newark and the NJDOH is hereby ratified from October 1, 2017 to the date of adoption of this authorizing resolution.

 

6.                     No municipal funds are required for receipt or acceptance of this grant award.

 

7.                     The Director of the Department of Health and Community Wellness shall file a fully-executed copy of the grant application, grant award letter and all supporting documents with the Office of the City Clerk.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

This resolution ratifies and authorizes the Mayor and/or his designee, the Director of the Department of Health and Community Wellness, to apply for and accept grant funds from the NJDOH, for the purpose of renovating the WIC site at 110 William Street, Newark, New Jersey 07102, in the amount of Two Hundred Fifty-Eight Thousand, Nine Hundred Seventy-Seven Dollars and Zero Cents ($258,977.00). The period for this funding is October 1, 2017 through September 30, 2019. No municipal funds are required.
