WHEREAS, on January 5, 2018, the City of Newark requested that the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA) amend and add to its Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) the repurposed DEMO #NJ 169 funds for the Traffic Signal Optimization/Adaptive Traffic Signals along the Broad Street Newark corridor; and

 

WHEREAS, on March 12, 2018, the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority Board voted to approve the repurposing of DEMO #NJ 169 funds in the amount of $1,678,233.00 for the Traffic Signal Optimization/ Adaptive Traffic Signals along the Broad Street Newark corridor for the Federal Fiscal Year 2018; and

 

WHEREAS, the City wishes to accept these funds.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

 

1.                     The repurposed DEMO #NJ 169 funds in the amount of $1,678,233.00 from the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA) for the Traffic Signal Optimization/Adaptive Traffic Signals along the Broad Street corridor Project is hereby accepted (a copy of the resolution awarding the funds is attached hereto and made a part hereof).

 

2.                     The Mayor and/or his designee, the Director of the Department of Engineering, are hereby authorized to enter into and execute funds acceptance documents with the NJTPA to receive and expend the funds in the amount of $1,678,233.00, for the Traffic Signal Optimization/Adaptive Traffic Signals along the Broad Street corridor Project for the Federal Fiscal Year 2019.

 

3.                     Upon notification of final authorization of this project, the Director of the Department of Engineering shall submit a complete copy of the project agreement and any associated documents to both the Corporation Counsel and the Business Administrator for review, approval, and signature.

 

4.                     A local match of $419,558.25 will be required for receipt and acceptance of this grant award and shall be provided from the 2019 municipal budget.

 

5.                     The Director of Engineering shall file a fully executed copy of the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority TIP Amendment letter, the final resolution awarding the funds, and the project agreement in the Office of the City Clerk.

 

STATEMENT

 

This resolution authorizes the Mayor and/or his designee, the Director of the Department of Engineering, to enter into and execute an agreement with and accept repurposed DEMO #NJ 169 funds for the Traffic Signal Optimization/Adaptive Traffic Signals along the Broad Street Newark corridor in the amount of $1,678,233.00 from the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority (NJTPA), for the Federal Fiscal Year 2019. Matching funds in the amount of $419,558.25 shall be provided from the 2019 municipal budget.
