WHEREAS, The Department of Health and Community Wellness/Mary Eliza Mahoney Health Center desires to accept donated medical supplies from Americares; and
WHEREAS, Americares is a global organization with a mission of saving lives and improving the health for people affected by poverty and disaster; and
WHEREAS, Americares also supports Local Health Centers by connecting donors of free medical supplies and equipment to Local Health Centers to sustain health improvements and outcomes; and
WHEREAS, Americares wishes to donate to the City of Newark Department of Health and Community Wellness/Mary Eliza Mahoney Health Center(s) medical supplies and medications; and
WHEREAS, the estimated value of this gift is Two Hundred Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($200,000.00) per year; and
WHEREAS, Americares fully understands and agrees that it is not entitled to receive any direct benefit from the City of Newark in exchange for the donated medication and medical supplies; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and or his designee, the Business Administrator and/or the Director of the Department of Health and Community Wellness/Mary Eliza Mahoney Health Center(s), desire to accept the gifts from the Americares; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Local Public Contracts Law (N.J.S.A. 40A:5-29), a local unit is authorized and empowered to accept bequests, legacies, and gifts made to it and is empowered to utilize such bequests, legacies, and gifts in the manner set forth in the conditions of the bequest, legacy and gift provided, however, that such bequest, legacy, or gift shall not be put to any use which is inconsistent with the laws of the State of New Jersey and the United States of America; and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of the City of Newark to accept this gift.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Mayor, Business Administrator and/or the Director of the Department of Health and Community Wellness/Mary Eliza Mahoney Health Center(s), are hereby authorized pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:5-29 to accept a gifts from the Americares with an estimated value of Two Hundred Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($200,000.00), per year providing medical supplies and medications for patients. Some of the donations includes, but is not limited to, medicine for patients to treat hypertension, diabetes, over the counter medications such as Tylenol, Aspirin, Antibiotics (oral and topical) and Ibuprofen. Some of the supplies they provide are lancets, glucometers, bandages, sunscreen lotions, pediatric lotions and creams.
2. The acceptance of the gift is ratified from December 1, 2018 to the date of adoption.
3. No municipal funds shall be expended for the acceptance of this gift.
4. Americares expects nothing in return as a result of this gift to the City of Newark Department of Health and Community Wellness/Mary Eliza Mahoney Health Center(s).
STATEMENT
This resolution authorizes the Mayor, Business Administrator and/or the Director of the Department of Health and Community Wellness, to accept gifts of donated medical supplies and medications from Americares for patients from Mary Eliza Mahoney Health Center(s) which have a total estimated value of Two Hundred Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($200,00.00) per year.
