WHEREAS, since May 1985 the United States government has honored men and women who serve our nation as federal, state, county, and local government employees through National Public Service Recognition Week; and
WHEREAS, civil servants deserve to be acknowledged for their hard work and willingness to serve their fellow citizens; they bring incredible skill, tireless dedication, and selfless service to a vast range of career fields; they include teachers, mail carriers, first responders, transit workers, and law enforcement; and
WHEREAS, our nation's civil servants provide outstanding contributions through their expertise and innovative ideas; they have given their lives in service to help make America better, safer and stronger; their exceptionalism and steadfast commitment have made a profound difference in the lives of all Americans; and
WHEREAS, the City of Newark wishes to recognize the dedication of our public servants and their significant contributions to the general welfare of the citizenry by observing the week of May 5th through May 11, 2019 as National Public Service Recognition Week.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Municipal Council hereby recognizes and promotes the important contributions of public servants by proclaiming May 5th through May 11, 2019, Public Service Recognition Week throughout the City of Newark, New Jersey.
2. A copy of this resolution shall be filed with the Office of the City Clerk.
