WHEREAS, the Municipal Council on April 23, 2019 adopted Resolution 7R8-d inviting the Municipality of Guiglo, Ivory Coast (Republique de Cote D'Ivoire), West Africa to establish a Sister Cities relationship with the City of Newark and the Mayor and Governing Body of the Municipality of Guiglo, Ivory Coast (Republique de Cote D'Ivoire), West Africa accepted the invitation by resolution; and
WHEREAS, the City of Newark recognizes the significance and necessity for global interaction; and
WHEREAS, the City of Newark acknowledges the great benefits to all of its residents of cultural and economic exchanges with other municipalities and towns from around the world; and
WHEREAS, the City of Newark feels that it is befitting to establish a meaningful relationship with the Municipality of Guiglo, Ivory Coast (Republique de Cote D'Ivoire), West Africa; and
WHEREAS, the Governing Body of the City of Newark deems a Sister City relationship between these two (2) distinguished municipalities is in the best interest of the citizens of Newark and the Municipality of Guiglo, Ivory Coast (Republique de Cote D'Ivoire), West Africa for many reasons including:
* The cultural and heritage identification between African-Americans in Newark with residents of Guiglo, Ivory Coast (Republique De Cote D'Ivoire), West Africa
* The possibility of commerce between businesses in the two (2) cities
* The potential for export/import of manufactured goods between the two (2) cities
