WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-e, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc., for honorary and ceremonial Purposes; and

 

WHEREAS, Anthony Carrino, was the consummate public servant who served the City of Newark and its residents faithfully in various capacities and occupations throughout out his life, including educator, football coach, police officer and Councilman; and

 

WHEREAS, Councilman Carrino began his service to the City of Newark as a history teacher and football coach at Barringer High School before becoming a police officer in 1968, serving in both positions before running successfully for the North Ward Council seat, a position he held for seven (7) terms before his defeat in 2002; and

 

WHEREAS, Councilman Carrino was an iconic figure in Newark’s North Ward where he worked tirelessly to improve the lives of his North Ward constituents and the residents of the City of Newark with unwavering passion, understanding and pride.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

                     

1.                     The Municipal Council does hereby authorize the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of Arlington Avenue and Lincoln Avenue “Anthony Carrino Boulevard”.

 

2.                     The official name of the said streets shall remain Arlington Avenue and Lincoln Avenue in their entirety.

This resolution authorizes the naming of the intersection of Arlington Avenue and Lincoln Avenue “Anthony Carrino Boulevard’, for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
